Donald Lewis, age 91 of Hamilton, passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on August 24, 1921 to Clark and Macie (Wilson) Lewis. Donald was employed as a millwright for Champion Paper Company for 40 years. On May 11, 1951, in Liberty, Indiana, he married the love of his life, Mary Harris. Donald was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Army in World War II from 1942- 1946. Donald was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts. He served the D.A.V Chapter 15, from 1946 until 2004. Donald enjoyed many woodworking projects and camping in Boonesboro and Rocky Fork. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton.
Donald is survived by his son William R. (Diane) Lewis; four grandchildren, Shannon (Jason), Carrie (Kevin), Justin (Brittany), and Caitlin ; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cheyenne, Austin, Brianna, Caleigh, Tristin, and Joslyn; two great-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Mason; sister-in-law, Vida Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, and grandparents James and Nancy Lewis.
Funeral service will be held at Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jeremy Spence and Rev. William C. Brantingham officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service (11 AM) at the funeral home.
