Melva (Jones) Ramsey

January 31, 1920 — August 10, 2014

Melva (Jones) Ramsey, age 94, passed away on August 10, 2014. She was born on January 31, 1920 in Hamilton County to Melvin and Ernestine (Stephan) Jones. She was the beloved wife for over 67 years to James E. Ramsey: loving mother to their five children: Karen (Kenneth) Polizzo, Roger (Willa) Ramsey, Kristi Strain, Rona Ryan and Robyn Ramsey. She was a much loved grandmother of ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters Pearl Lubberger and Mary Scheper and sister in law Maxine Jones. Melva was also known as a loving "Aunt DeeDee" to many nieces and nephews.

Melva was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, her brothers Stephan and Ernest Jones and a great grandson, Tyler Kiep. Melva was a gifted athlete. She played ball at numerous parks for several sponsors. Joe Nuxhall inducted her into the Butler County Baseball Hall of Fame. Melva was a talented basketball player and equestrienne. She opened the Butler County Fair many times on horseback. Melva was a renowned bowler and bowled competitively in Las Vegas and was a member of the 600 Club W.I.B.C. She was an expert seamstress, an excellent cook and a skilled artist. One of her greatest joys was the lively card games with friends and family. She would light up like a Christmas tree when she would catch an opponent’s "Jack" in a game of "Pitch". A special warm thank you for the wonderful care given to our mother by the staff at The Woodlands of Hamilton.
