Adam James Hammerly Jr.

Adam James Hammerly, Jr., age 71 of Hamilton passed away at Mercy Hospital Fairfield on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 5:52 AM. He was born in Hamilton on July 4, 1939 the son of Adam James and Dorothy (Fugate) Hammerly, Sr. Jim was a 1958 graduate of Hamilton High School, and attended the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963 and served at Lackland, TX, Sacramento, CA, and Cheyenne, WY. Jim was elected Airman of the month at Lackland Air Force Base. He was later the chaplain’s assistant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Community Christian Church and was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and soloist at North Seventh Street Church of Christ. He was employed as a shear operator for SOS Steel. Jim loved singing, playing drums, reading, and playing sports. On July 23, 1966 in Hamilton he was married to Joy Lea Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Lea Hammerly of Hamilton; a son, James L. Hammerly of Hamilton; a brother, Richard (Marcia) Hammerly of Fairfield; a sister, Nancy (Dewey) Robinson of Fairfield; two aunts, Jean Featherland of Fairfield and Eileen Vincena of West Chester; beloved dog, Angel; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Samuel Butts; and his father, Adam James Hammerly, Sr.

Funeral service will be held at the Community Christian Church, 3401 Millikin Road, on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 12:00 noon with Pastor Scott Swelbar officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Fresenius Dialysis Center in Fairfield, Dr. Manovalin, Dr. Mahida, Dr. Roper & Associates, and all the staff at Mercy Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Kidney Foundation of Greater Cincinnati
