Alice Yeary

d. January 13, 2024

Alice (Vanover) Yeary, 62, passed away on January 13, 2024 in Hamilton, Ohio after a four and a half year, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born and raised in Middlesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James W. Vanover and Bobbie Vanover. She was a 1979 graduate of Middlesboro High School; she received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 1983 and her M.A. in Education from Union College in 1987. She taught in the Middlesboro Independent School System for 16 years, primarily as a Middle School Math teacher. For the remainder of her career, Alice was privileged to serve alongside her husband, Steve, at the Appalachian Children's Home in Barbourville, Kentucky. Steve was President of the faith-based, non-profit organization, while Alice ran the business & financial office for 16 years.

Alice is survived by Steve Yeary, her husband of 36 years; son, Josh Yeary and his wife Leslie, grandsons Zeke and Asher Yeary, all of Fairfield TWP, Ohio. She is also survived by her sister, Kay (Andy) Cooke of London, Kentucky, and her brother, Ron (Chrysteen) Vanover of Walton, Kentucky, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

Among Alice's favorite pastimes were spending time with grandsons and traveling to many beautiful places with Steve and special friends. They enjoyed activities such as attending sporting events, the theater, and more. Alice was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She professed the Christian faith at the age of 11 and was honored to be involved in several positions of service through the years, from choir member to Sunday School teacher. A driving force in her life was to seek to be content in all situations (Philippians 4:11).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Appalachian Children's Home , P.O. Box 550, Barbourville, Kentucky, 40906.
