Alice Charlene Demonge, age 60 of Hamilton, passed away of natural causes due to cancer on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Charlene died very peacefully, listening to Led Zeppelin while surrounded by family and friends. She was born at the Oakland Naval Hospital in Oakland, California on May 17, 1964 to Al “Buzz” Chafin Jr. and Donna (McWhorter) Chafin, but she was raised in Hamilton, Ohio. Charlene was a lifelong member of Stahlheber Baptist Church. She graduated from Taft High School in 1982. The following year, Charlene gave birth to her only daughter Jessica. For many years of her life, she worked with clients at the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities and in home healthcare, taking care of adults with special needs. In 1989, she met and married the love of her life, Thomas E. DeMonge. Charlene was a free spirit that appreciated counterculture and lived a rebellious lifestyle. She loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles, rock and roll and playing pool. Charlene was always the life of the party. Although she only had one daughter, she lovingly “adopted” many of Jess’s friends and stayed in touch throughout their adulthood. Charlene made sure her home was always a safe space, and everyone called her “mom”.
Charlene is survived by her mother, Donna Chafin; her daughter, Jessica (Eric) Combs; 3 grandchildren, Jaden Parks, Lux House, and Roscoe Combs, who were the light of her life; brother, Brian (Lyddia) Chafin; and nephews, Casey, Colin, and Caleb Chafin. Charlene was preceded in death by her father, Albert Chafin Jr.; and her husband, Thomas E. DeMonge.
Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society.
