Alma Louise Ryan entered eternal life on September 30, 2012, at the age of 90.
Alma Louise Nardine was born on December 1, 1921 in Vincennes, IN to the late Raymond R. and Corinne (Dillon) Nardine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome A. Ryan, her son, Raymond (Dean) Ryan, and her granddaughter, Bettina Ryan. Alma, also known as Amy to many of her family and friends, graduated from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN, in 1942, with a degree in drama and education. On June 6, 1945, Alma married Jerome A. Ryan; they enjoyed 66 years of marriage and were the very proud parents of 11 children.
She was a longtime member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, Hamilton, Garden and Travel Clubs of Hamilton, St. Mary’s College Alumnae Association and its Cincinnati Chapter. Alma was a homemaker, taught high school, studied on the graduate level at Miami University, was a former clerk of courts of Butler County, an avid bridge player, a prolific reader and had a passion for politics. She was a "one-of-a-kind," sophisticated woman of the WWII generation with boundless energy, a love of life, a most generous heart, and was a great inspiration to her family and friends.
Alma is survived by her children, Michael (Maggie) Ryan, Cincinnati; Mary Pat (Dewey) Poskon, Indianapolis, IN; Kathleen Ryan, Cincinnati; Amy Zettler, Fairfield; Martha Hern, Milford; Frances (Craig) Lindner, Cincinnati; Marjorie (Albert) Hulgrave, Bethesda, MD; Nancy (Malott) Nyhart, Cincinnati; Jerome A. Ryan Jr. (Christine), Jupiter, FL; and John (Patrice) Ryan, Cincinnati; a sister, Patricia Nardine, Hamilton, and a sister-in-law, Mary Baker, Susquehanna, PA. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, 325 W. 8th St. Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday, October 5, 2012 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. There will be a private Committal Service at the discretion of the family.
Family will greet friends immediately after the mass in the back of church.
