Alpha Abrams

Alpha Abrams, age 81 of Hamilton passed away at Mercy Hospital Fairfield on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 10:32 AM. She was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on October 4, 1928 the daughter of Amon F. and Joan (McGuire) Shell. Continuing her family heritage of needlework, Alpha made her living doing men’s clothing alterations at Gentry, Dunlap’s, and Burg’s. She was a member of Princeton Pike Church of God.

She is survived by four children, Darrell Abrams of Van Nuys, California, Wade Shell of Prescott, Arizona, Jewell Abrams of Phoenix, Arizona, and Janice (Gary) Brownell of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Angela (Erik) Sveinsson of Phoenix, Arizona, Melissa (Justin) Holt, and Justin Brownell, both of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Blake, and Layla Holt; a brother, Delmer Shell of Hamilton; and a sister, Ruby Singleton of Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce Marie; four brothers, Albert, Burgess, Luther, and Lawrence Shell; and three sisters, Rebecca Bonds, Ruth Allen, and Edna Allen.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Ron Medley of Princeton Pike Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Princeton Pike Church of God Building Fund.
