Amos J. Tillery, age 82 of Hamilton passed away at Tri-County Extended Care on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 5:40 PM. He was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on February 20, 1928 the son of James H. and Mary (Gabbard) Tillery. Amos was employed as a custodian for Fairfield City School District, retiring in 1974. On December 13, 1947 in Hamilton he married Glena Ray Wells, and she preceded him in death in 2003.
He is survived by four children, Joy A. Craig of Oxford, James D. Tillery of Hamilton, Wendell B. (Belinda) Tillery of Hamilton, and Darla K. (Matt) Burchett of Overpeck; three brothers, George (Zella) Tillery, Harold "Jim" Tillery, and Charles Tillery, all of Hamilton; a sister, Dorothy Maggard of Berea, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Opal Lunsford, Hazel Reed, and Della Tillery.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Terry Maynard of First Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
