Andrew B. Sturgill, age 66 of Reily Township passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Thursday, August 20, 2009. He was born in East Bernstadt, Kentucky on June 5, 1943 the son of Tice R. and Gracie H. (Hubbard) Sturgill. Andrew retired as a bricklayer from Olinger Construction; he was a former employee of Hamilton Foundry and was a paper carrier for the Hamilton Journal for 15 years, being named Carrier of the Year in 2004. He was a member of Moose Lodge #36 for over 35 years and was a retired volunteer firefighter for Reily Township. Andrew enjoyed the outdoors, especially his garden. On July 28, 1960 in Hamilton he married Louise North. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Louise Sturgill of Reily Township; two sons, Burton (Julie) Sturgill of Franklin County, Indiana and Jason (Jessika) Sturgill of Seven Mile; a son-in-law, Dennis Ward of Franklin County, Indiana; 15 grandchildren, Valerie (David), Mark (Carrie), Danny (Stuffy), Curtis (Catrina), Zachary (Amanda), Lindsey, Larry, Ryan, Austin, Rachel, Lydia, Desiree, Paige, Cara, and Hoochie "Lexi" 6 great-grandchildren, Sidney, Joey, "Baby Girl" Carmen, Vickie, Johnni, and Little Man "Dalton"; three brothers, Raymond (Judy) Sturgill, Elmer (Theresa) Sturgill and Donnie (Debbie) Sturgill, both of Indiana; five sisters, Mildred Brock of Indiana, Janie Howard, Hettie (Don) Taulbee, Shirley (Van) Ratliff, all of Hamilton, and Phyllis (Randall) Genten of Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a very special daughter, Vickie Ward; two sisters, Juanita Harris and Verice Parson; and a brother, Larry Wayne Sturgill.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Bro. Roy "Peanut" Van Winkle of Brookville Road Baptist Church and Randall Collins of Connersville Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will follow in Sims Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Ft. Hamilton Hospital, especially the ICU for their care and concern.
