Annemarie Smith, age 84 of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 6:30 AM. She was born in Czechoslovakia (Sudetenland) on May 24, 1928 to Otto and Anna (Petters) Speck. On December 17, 1948 in Germany she married William E. Smith. Annemarie was a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, a former member of the Liberty Home Association, was very well known in the German-American Community, and was a frequent visitor at the German Festivals and events throughout the area. She was a translator for the American Occupation Forces in West Germany after World War II, her main passion was being a homemaker, and spending time with her family.
She was totally devoted to her family and always put them first. Annemarie could light up a room like a Christmas tree with her presence. Everyone who came to her house was sure to be offered plenty of food and never left hungry. She loved to share her interesting life story and childhood memories with her family and friends and her son Mike has written her story for family and friends to cherish forever.
Annemarie was a loving, caring, forgiving and compassionate wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and friend who is survived by her husband of 64 years, William E. Smith of Hamilton; seven children, Michael (Marian) Smith of Hamilton, Stephen (Lisa) Smith of Hamilton, Andrea Smith of Hamilton, Theresa (Paul) Brewer of Somerville, Matthew Smith of Hamilton, Patricia (Manuel) Embry of Hamilton, and Mark (Sheila) Smith of Hamilton; ten grandchildren, Michelle, Kelly, Shawn, Jennifer, Jeremy, Lauren, Kelsey, Kaitlyn, Annemarie, and Tyler; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ulrika Wilson and Barbel Speck.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, 382 Liberty Avenue, on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Father Ronald Haft Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Stephens Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Hamilton, 1010 Eaton Ave., Hamilton, Ohio 45013 or Mercy Franciscan At St Raphael, 610 High St., Hamilton, Ohio 45011. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Edward Crane, Dr. Samuel Docena, Dr. James Fitzpatrick, Mercy Fairfield Oncology Staff, and Hospice of Hamilton for all their care and support.
