Arthur Simmons Jr. age 73, a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, passed away on Nov. 28, 2023, at Kettering Hospital Hamilton. Arthur was born on May 27, 1950, to Arthur Simmons Sr. and Eunice (Mathis) Simmons in Talladega, Alabama and grew up in New Miami. He was a tremendous 3 sport athlete at New Miami High School. As a starting guard on the 1968-69 Viking basketball squad, he led his team to the best record in school history. He was also a top track star, a starting quarterback of the Viking Football team, and was inducted into the New Miami High School Hall of Fame. On March 11th, 1978, Arthur married his devoted wife Sharon of 46 years, who he loved so deeply. He took such pride in providing for his family. Arthur was a hardworking man who spent 30 years at Champion Mill Paper Co. and balanced years of shift work while doing home remodeling on the side. After retirement, Arthur spent many of his days making precious memories with his two youngest grandsons or sitting with his wife at plays and sporting events where he never missed an opportunity to watch his grandkids doing what they loved. Arthur gave his life to the Lord at Crossfire church where he felt so loved by everyone in the congregation. His commitment and dedication to the Lord was an inspiration to his church family. He developed many meaningful relationships in the church, but none more special than meeting his best friend, Wylie Shockley. Many described them as 2 peas in a pod.
Arthur is survived by his wife Sharon, his only son Arthur “J.J.” Simmons III and his wife Angela, and his 4 daughters Chantelle Day, Mindy Hughes, Angela (Dwain) Heineke, and Marie (Mike) Whitt, his brother Roy Chapman and his sisters Linniea Jean Chapman, Jonnie Smith, Frances Simmons, Debbie Simmons, and Mary Simmons.
