Arvel H. Gibson

February 21, 1933 — January 28, 2011

Arvel H. Gibson, age 77 of Liberty Township passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Friday, January 28, 2011. He was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on February 21, 1933 the son of Coltz and Laura (Angel) Gibson. Arvel was employed as a painter at Mosler Safe Company for 28 years, retiring in 1996. He is a member of Bradshaw Hills Baptist Church and former member of Franklin St. Baptist Church. Arvel enjoyed participating in sports including bowling, horseshoes and pitching for the Mosler softball team. In 1991 in Hamilton he married Gloria Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Gibson; a son, Donald Gibson; two daughters, Rhonda (Jake) Davis and Linda Dennett, the mother of his children, Bernice Gibson; a stepson, Rich Turner; three stepdaughters, Samantha Turner, Susan Turner, and Nicole (Scott) Matthews; eight grandchildren, Donald Gibson Jr., Bethanie Gibson, Tyler Gibson, Sandy Lainhart, Christy (Bill) Carboy, Charles Sapp, Heather (Scott) Serfass and Kara Dennett; seven step grandchildren, Richie Lee Turner, Andrew Turner, Matt Smith, Arias Turner, Brandon Turner, Brady Matthews, and Kaylin Matthews; seven great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Richard (Gladys) Gibson, Troy (Sherry) Gibson, and Raymond (Ruby) Gibson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Johnny Gibson; five sisters, Nancy Schwartz, Josie Satterfield, Nicey Harris, Barbara Dering and Helen Huff; a step granddaughter, Megan Smith; and a step-great-granddaughter, Alexa Smith.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, February 2, at 12:00 noon with Pastor Greg Mullins of Franklin Street Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Arvel’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to Doctors Mital and Weisenberger and their staffs for their care and concern.
