Barbara Ann Day

March 8, 1941 — August 7, 2025

Oxford

Barbara Ann (Richardson) Day, age 84 of Oxford, passed away peacefully at Woodland Country Manor in Somerville, Ohio on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Barbara was born on March 8, 1941, to Carrice Richardson and Madeline (Thomas) Richardson in Irvine, Kentucky. Her family moved to Hamilton to find work. She was a 1959 graduate of Talawanda High School. A year before graduation, she fell in love and married the love of her life, Dennis Day on August 16, 1958. They welcomed their daughter Judy in 1961, and their son Jeffrey in 1965.

During their 67 years of marriage, Dennis and Barbara certainly made their mark on the town they settled in, Oxford, Ohio. They lived on a small farm for a few years, then stepped out in faith and opened Day’s Dairy Deluxe in Oxford. Barbara developed all the recipes for Sherbert, ice cream topping, special sauces and sandwiches. Together they went on to build many houses, for both families and students, develop subdivisions, commercial buildings, shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, laundries, car washes, and storage units.

Barbara was a perfectionist when it came to record keeping. She was self-taught and did an amazing job with all their projects and businesses. Barbara attended Miami to get her real estate license so she could help sell houses that Dennis built around Oxford, Hamilton and later in life in Brookville, IN.

Faith was a huge part of Barbara’s life. She was a great example of Proverbs 31 woman. She has been a long-time member of the Church of God based in Cleveland, TN. Barbara worked tirelessly helping with Church Dinners, Fundraisers, Bake Sales and other projects. She had a God given gift of hospitality and opened her home to Pastors, Evangelist and missionaries from around the world making many lifetime friends.

Barbara was an excellent cook. She loved collecting recipes and published a cookbook last year that she shared with family and friends. Her family meant the world to her. She made meals everyday for over 20 family members. Having her home filled with happy chaos brought true joy. She loved serving others. She was a perfect example of God’s grace to her family. Her testimony will long outlive her physical body.

Barbara loved Bluegrass Music. She went all summer long to festivals and had an uncanny ability to discover talent and predict which group would be a hit and which wouldn’t make. During award shows she could guess the winners even the dark horses that others didn’t think had a chance.

Travel was a great joy in her life. She had the opportunity to see the entire United States and many other countries. She loved to travel with her family. We all piled in a van and were known as “Barbo’s Bunch”. All her grandchildren affectionately called her Barbo. We had great trips together.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Dennis Day; daughter Judy (Steve) Ramsey; daughter in law Scarlet Day; grandchildren, Kelly (Tim) Smith, Chris (Kara) Ramsey, Moriah (Jamison) Walters, Miranda Day and Graham Day; great grandchildren, Justice (Desmond) Harkness, Ashlynn Ramsey, Hawkin Fix, Karoline Ramsey, Charlotte Ramsey, Cash Ramsey, and Callahan Walters. She was going to be a great great grandmother in November. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews and wonderful lifelong friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Carrice and Madeline Richardson, her brother, Roger Richardson, her sister Betty Howard, and her beloved son, Jeffrey Day.

We wish to thank the entire staff at Woodland Country Manor for wonderful care the past six years.

Barbara’s family wish to honor her with a service at AP Church, 5450 College Corner Pike, Oxford, Ohio on Sunday August 10, 2025. Rodney White will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30PM-7:00PM and the service will immediately follow at 7PM. There will be no graveside service, and a reception in her honor will be held in the Student Center at AP Church.
