Bernard "Bernie" Johnson

Bernard "Bernie" Johnson, age 74 of Seven Mile passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 11:11 AM. He was born in Hamilton on November 17, 1936 the son of Fred and Mildred (Coning) Johnson. Bernie was employed as an electrician for Armco Steel and was a member of American Legion Post #218. On June 17, 1961 in Seven Mile, he married Ruby Grooms.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Johnson of Seven Mile; two sons, Bernie (Edna) Johnson and Justin Meek, both of Seven Mile; his mother, Mildred Johnson of Seven Mile; two sisters, Pam Grooms of Williamsdale and Judy Dunham of Seven Mile; two grandchildren, Robbie Johnson and Kayla (Brad) Sorrell, both of Seven Mile; a great-grandson, Mason Sorrell; his friends and band members; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Tammy Johnson.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Paul Tillett of Freedom Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Richmond Road Baptist Church, 2170 Hamilton-Richmond Road, Hamilton 45013.
