Bertha Chasteen, age 84 of Hamilton passed away at her residence on Friday, April 22, 2011. She was born in London, Kentucky on July 11, 1926 the daughter of Russell and Flora (Bowling) Messer. Bertha was employed as the owner/operator of Mamaw’s Restaurant and was a member of Berean Baptist Church. In 1945 in Hamilton, she married William O. Chasteen Jr., and he preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by four children, Janet Blevins, Robert Dale (Susan) Chasteen, Russell Chasteen, and Rueben Chasteen; and two sisters, Edna Mae Thomas and Martha (Earl) Robbins; a special daughter-in-law, Bev Chasteen; a special caregiver and grandson, T.J. Blevins; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Susan Chasteen; and seven brothers, Rueben, Henry, Ben, Fred, Arthur, Stanley, and Walter Messer.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Steve Botts of Berean Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
