Bertha Ivey

Bertha Ivey, age 74 of Hamilton passed away at her residence on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 6:05 AM. She was born in Owsley County, Kentucky on January 24, 1934 the daughter of Chester and Nancy (Moore) Tirey. Bertha was employed in the housekeeping department at Mercy Hospital of Hamilton for fifteen years, retiring in 1987. In 1955 in Hamilton she married Burt Ivey, who preceded her in death in 1989. She is survived by four daughters, Brenda (Chester) DeBorde, Joyce (Joey) Spoonamore, Debbie (Richard) Sandlin, and Donna Jean Ivey; three sons, Ronald Lee Ivey, Kenneth Ray (Diana) Ivey, and John Ray Ivey; two brothers, Conley Tirey and Chester Tirey Jr; two sisters, Lola Lamb and Hazel McCoy; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Lloyd, Edward, Walter, Wilbur, Othar, Willie, and Leslie Tirey; one sister, Emma Brandenburg; and two grandsons, Matt Ivey and Joey Spoonamore Jr. Funeral service will be held at the Pater Avenue Pentecostal Church of God, 1321 Pater Avenue, on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Tina Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church.
