Bertha Southard

Bertha Southard, age 91 of Hamilton passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 4:49 AM. She was born in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky on February 21, 1921 the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Barnett) Roberts. Bertha was a long time member of Pater Avenue Free Pentecostal Church of God and currently attended Hamilton Church of God. On March 16, 1945 in Mount Vernon, Kentucky she married William Southard and he preceded her in death in 2002. Bertha was a homemaker and a great cook and made the best fried chicken and peanut butter fudge. During World War II, she moved to Lockland to live with her aunt and was employed in the ammunition factory.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who is survived by one son, William (Joan) Southard of Hamilton; two daughters, Linda (Jerry) Gentry of Hamilton and Joyce (John) Thomas of Sorrento, Florida; a brother, Robert (Una) Roberts of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; two sisters, Edith Lunsford and Ada Roberts, both of Broadhead, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Angela (Kent) Ball, Melissa (Tom) Pate, Lori (Steve) Wegman, Brandon (Carla) Southard, and Holly Gadd; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Wayne, William, Everett, and Ernest Roberts; and two sisters, Juanita Lunsford and Hazel Whitaker.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Alan Weaver of Hamilton Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Cincinnati, especially her nurse aide Sharon, for all their care and support.
