Bertie J. Overbey

Bertie J. Overbey, age 88 of Hamilton, passed away at Birchwood Care Center on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. She was born in Pittsburgh, Kentucky on August 22, 1928 the daughter of Morgan and Nannie (Bowles) Williams. On June 16, 1948 in Lily, Kentucky she married Kenneth Overbey. Bertie was employed in the Student Affairs Office at Miami University Hamilton Campus for several years and later as an independent insurance agent for the rest of her career. She was very active member in various local church congregations including the Millville Avenue Church of God. Bertie volunteered her time and services in the Hamilton Civic Theater, The Board of Goodwill, ABWA, DAR, Harmonettes, and loved to visit and sing at local nursing homes. She had her own radio show, Bible Study with Bertie for several years, ran for city council, and published various articles and her own column titled, Dear Ruth in local newspapers.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Overbey of Hamilton; five children, William M. (LeeAnn) Overbey of Indianapolis, Linda Jayne, Rebecca (Tom) Thiem, both of Hamilton, Susan Burgess of Fairfield, and Timothy Overbey of Hamilton; seven grandchildren, Jason Burgess, Scott Overbey, Kyle Overbey, Lauren (Danny) Combs, Jeremy Jayne, Whitney (Rob) Perry, and Carrie Thiem; five great grandchildren; and three siblings, Zula (John) Barnard of London, Jan (Tim) Sparkman, and George (Barbara) Williams, all of London, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Pearl Parsley, Lella Beckner, Etsye Simmons, Denver Williams, Flora Kidd, Zuma Barnard, Lois Cloyd, and three infant brothers.

Funeral service will be held at Millville Avenue Church of God, 1369 Millville Ave., on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 12:00 PM with her son, Rev. William Overbey officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the church.
