Bessie "Granny" Hensley

Bessie "Granny" Hensley, age 89 of Brookville, Indiana formerly of Okeana, Ohio, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 5:13 P.M. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky on March 15, 1920 the daughter of Alex and Creasy (Roark) Rogers. Bessie was a homemaker and avid bingo player for years. She married Morgan "Dock" Hensley in 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1998.

Surviving are two children; a son, Jack Hensley (daughter-in-law Margie Hensley) of Hamilton, Ohio and a daughter Kimberly A. Lewis (son-in-law Joe Lewis) of Brookville, Indiana; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, John Rogers of Clay County, Kentucky; 3 sisters; Betty Jean Rogers of Hamilton, Ohio, Nannie Alford and Bobbie Rogers, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to Thank the staff at Brookville Healthcare Center for the loving care given to our Mother during her stay there and would like to Thank The Emmanual Baptist Church and The First Baptist Church for the wonderful services she was able to enjoy so much, and for allowing her and her son Jack to spend many hours together in the last year of her life, that was the greatest gift she could have ever received.

Bessie had a special love for children, they were all very dear to her. She was especially close to her great granddaughter Maggie Lynn Wilson. Maggie loved her very much and visited her often.

Funeral services were officiated by Kevin Noah at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, with family present. She was laid to rest in the Millville Cemetery. Donations in her honor can be made to The Hospice of Hamilton.
