Calvin C. Carter, age 82 of Oxford passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 2:55 AM. He was born in Hamilton on January 7, 1926 the son of William and Minnie (Howard) Carter. Calvin was a graduate of Fairfield High School and Hamilton Business College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946, where he served in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. Calvin was employed as a sales representative for Hamilton Distributing for 32 years, retiring in 1993. On December 12, 1948 in Hamilton, he married Jean Pope.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Carter of Oxford; three children, Judy Carter of Oxford, Joy (Larry Sr.) Hornung of Brookville, Indiana, and Chuck Carter of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Samantha (Brad) Blades of Brookville, Lori Hornung of College Corner, Indiana, Sgt. Scott (Jennifer) Hatfield of Iraq, and Larry Hornung Jr. of West College Corner, Indiana; and six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Nathan, Kyla, Aubrey, Hannah, and Garet. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Hamilton, 1010 Eaton Avenue, Hamilton 45013.
