Calvin D. Getz, age 70 of Hamilton passed away at his residence on Monday, December 17, 2007. He was born in Hamilton on July 2, 1937 the son of Elmer and Lelia (Dawson) Getz. Cal was honorably discharged as a sergeant in the Ohio National Guard, where he served from 1960 to 1966. He was employed in the advertising department for Beckett Paper Company, and then in sales for Nationwide Paper, and retired as a realtor in 2005. Cal was a lifetime member of the Monkey Mutual Aid Society, a member of the Amvets #1983, Eagles #3986, and was a special deputy for the Butler County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, and was an artisan. On June 20, 1964 in Brookville, Indiana he married Pamela A. Mergenthal, who preceded him in death in 2002.
He is survived by two sons, Steven (Jennifer) Getz of Fairfield and Michael Getz of Hamilton; four grandsons, Nicholas, Christopher, Bradley, and Alex Getz; one sister, Shirley Fackey of Hamilton; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Tirey.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Daniel Snider of Salem Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
