Carl E. Downey

Carl E. Downey, age 78 of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 9:15 PM. He was born in Barbourville, Kentucky on November 13, 1936 the son of Art and Paula Downey. Carl was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1958. He was employed by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #5 for numerous years, retiring in 1996. Carl attended Redeemer Church; was a member of the North Bend Masonic Lodge #0346, Shriners International, Hamiton Commandary #44, Hamilton Council #19, Hamilton Chapter #21, and also was a Kentucky Colonel. In 1975 in Hamilton he married Barbara Flannery.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Downey of Hamilton; three sons, William, Larry, and Mark Downey; two daughters, Kim (Jerry) Mathews and Cindy (Dave Hensel) Reece, both of Hamilton; one brother, James Downey of California; his stepmother, Alice Downey of Hamilton; three granddaughters, Emily (Rick) Arnold, Ashley (Devin) Hoover, and Tori Mathews, and five greatgrandsons, Xander Arnold, Sawyer Arnold, Thatcher Arnold, Finn Hoover, Maverick Hoover. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Downey.

Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Tillett, Sr. of First Baptist Church of Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
