Cassie Messer

Cassie Messer, age 91, of Ocala, Florida was called home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2008, at her residence. She was born on July 9, 1917 in Clay Co., Kentucky to J. R. and Nevada (Ball) Murray; she was one of ten children. On November 29, 1941 in Tennessee she married Arthur Messer, who passed away on June 22, 1987; to this union was born six children. They lived in the Ohio/Indiana area until they moved to Ocala, Florida in 1971. Cassie was a charter member of Scipio United Baptist Church, Scipio, Ohio. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be missed by many.

She is survived by her children, Betty Lou Grubb of Ocala, Florida, Roy Lee Messer of Maryville, Tennessee, Arthur O’Dell of Ocala, Florida, and Mendle Fred Messer of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister, Mattie Brackett of Trenton, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Phyllis Carol Massey; a son, Walter Edward Messer; a grandson, Roy Messer Jr.; five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at Scipio United Baptist Church, 129 West Hamilton-Scipio Road, Scipio, Ohio on Thursday August 21 at 10:00 AM with Brother Tom Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in McDaniel Cemetery near London, Kentucky at 4:00 PM on Thursday. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, on Wednesday from 5 PM to 8 PM.
