Charles "Dutch" DeBord, age 86 of Hamilton passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 4:58 PM. He was born in Hamilton on October, 7, 1922 the son of John Henry and Barbara Christine (Schick) DeBord. Dutch served as a Sergeant in the 5th armored division of the European Campaign, during WWII. He was a respected member of the business community as the owner and operator of Heitzman Heating Company for over 35 years. Dutch was an avid sportsman, including a fishing trip to the Arctic Circle. He was a proud member of the Masons, Washington Lodge #17 – F&AM, and the National Rifle Association. On August 24, 1946 in Hamilton he married Lena Messer.
He is survived by his wife, Lena DeBord of Hamilton; a daughter, Barbara (Jack) Binegar of St. Augustine, Florida; a son, Larry DeBord of Los Angeles, California; three grandchildren, Doug, Rob and Barbara Michelle; and five great-grandchildren, Sarah, George, Barbara Christine, Timothy and Isabella. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Pete, Gene, Don and George; two sisters, Pauline and Grace.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Dutch was the patriarch of his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
