Charles L. Lainhart, age 87 of Fairfield passed away at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 9:03 AM. He was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on June 29, 1920 the son of William James and Bertha (Russell) Lainhart. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He was employed as a steam shift engineer at Fisher Body for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Charles was a member of F&AM Washington Lodge #17, Syrian Shrine, Knights Templar, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was secretary/treasurer for 35 years of the National Institute of Uniform Power Licensed Engineers and National Association of Power Engineers, and Manager for St. Mary’s Boat Club for 17 years, retiring in 2007. Charles loved playing music, gardening flowers, and he was an avid collector with many interests. He attended St. Clair Baptist Church. On April 4, 1942 in St. Clair Baptist Church, he married Elsie L. Sweeney.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie L. Lainhart of Fairfield; two daughters, Judy D. (Rick Mapes) White and Linda D. (Rob) Hillard, both of West Chester; three grandchildren, Lisa Owens, Kristen White, and Robby Hillard; two great-grandchildren, Mariah Denier and Kasey Royer; a great-great-grandson, Ryan Bader; two sisters-in-law, Lynn Lainhart of Hamilton and Ruby Lainhart of California; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Alfred, Carl, and Rufford Lainhart.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Christine E. White officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Washington Lodge #17 will hold Masonic services at the funeral home at 5:00 PM Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House or to Shriners Burns Institute.
