Charlotte Rebecca (Moore) Crotty, known affectionately by friends and family as "Honey," passed away at the age of 85 in the early hours of Saturday, June 22, 2019 in Dublin, Ohio from complications due to a serious stroke suffered four and a half years prior.
Charlotte was born on March 12, 1934 to George and Hazel (Allen) Moore in Millville, Ohio. Because Hazel had to work outside of the house to support her family, everyone had to take on more responsibilities to keep the household running. This was also the reason that Charlotte entered school at a much earlier age than she ordinarily would have. However, with the help of her siblings and her classmates who "adopted" her, she rose to this challenge and graduated as one of the youngest in her class at Ross High School in Hamilton, Ohio in 1951. This all helped to reinforce in her the importance of family in her life, and this was evident in the devotion that she had throughout her life to her siblings George ("Don"), Alene, Jim, Lee, Robert, and John.
As her mother before her, Charlotte was a working mother most of her younger life in order to support her own children whom she loved dearly: Alan ("Rocky"), Gayle, and George ("Buddy"). She was employed by Robert Hall clothing store in Hamilton, Ohio, and later by Van Dyne-Crotty, Inc. (now Spirit Services) in Columbus, Ohio, where she met her current husband, Ralph Francis "Frank" Crotty, to whom she had been married for 32 years. She spent time on the things she loved: traveling with her family, taking trips to the casino - especially with her cousin Wanda, and shopping for her children and close relatives.
Charlotte was fiercely loyal to those she loved and never afraid to speak her mind. She was well known for her sharp wit and sense of humor. She could be as tough as nails when she needed to be, but one of the most warm and loving people you could ever be lucky enough to meet and was often the first to help friends and relatives in times of need. If you had Charlotte on your side, you felt unstoppable. Everyone needs a sister, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother or a friend like Charlotte in their life, and we have been so lucky to have her.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her son George "Buddy" Edward Stowe II, brothers George Donald Moore and James A Moore, sister, Alene Mullins, and beloved mother Hazel (Allen) Moore.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Ralph Francis Crotty; her brothers: Lee Moore (Pinkie Moore), Robert Moore (Nancy Moore), and John Moore (Eti Moore); her children: Alan Marshall (Julee Marshall) and Gayle Sherouse (Richard Sherouse); her step-children: Tim Crotty (Nina Crotty) and Chris Banglesdorf (Bill Banglesdorf); her grandchildren: Jason Marshall (Allison Marshall), Adam Marshall (Tracy Marshall), Thomas Marshall, Marie Marshall, Anita Marshall, Dara Sherouse, Kacie Sherouse, Michael Crotty (Maria Crotty), Collen Stumph (Bryon Stumph), Heather Scardina (Jason Scardina), Mindy Decker (Zack Decker), and Jennifer Chess (John Chess); 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
