Clarence A. "Blanky" Blankenburg Jr.

December 30, 1924 — October 2, 2011

Clarence A. "Blanky" Blankenburg Jr., age 86 of Hamilton passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 4:18 AM. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana on December 30, 1924 the son of Clarence Sr. and Alma (Nardine) Blankenburg. He moved to Hamilton in 1927, attended St. Ann’s Parochial School and Hamilton Catholic High School. Clarence served in the United States Army during WWII. He attended Xavier University and then bought and operated a meat and grocery store at Findley Market in Cincinnati until his retirement in 1987. On June 5, 1948 he married Ruth Wilson in St. Ann Catholic Church. Clarence was a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1954, serving as a past Grand Knight in 1960. He had a passion for playing cards, and playing pitch or bridge with family and friends brought him much pleasure.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three children, sons Mark and R. Scott Blankenburg, and daughter Barbara "Bunny" (Roger) Kiep, all of Hamilton; and three grandchildren, Gregory, Meredith and Jennifer Kiep. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to his family physician, Dr. Chetna Mital, as well as to the many caring nurses from Fort Hamilton Hospital’s intermediate care floor and Hospice of South West who provided him with such wonderful loving care.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 224 Dayton Street, on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Michael Pucke, Celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) Foundation in memory of Clarence at: ALS Foundation for Life P.O. Box 96 Natick, MA 01760.
