Cletus Howard Withrow, affectionately known as "DeeDee", passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, in Hamilton, Ohio, at the age of 96. Born on July 11, 1929, in Hamilton, Ohio, DeeDee lived a long and fulfilling life rooted in faith, family, and community.
A proud graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School in 1947, DeeDee was a member of the school's basketball team. He cherished a regular Tuesday brunch at "The Avenue" with Catholic alumni, where they shared memories and camaraderie.
In 1950, DeeDee answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served honorably during the Korean War from 1951 to 1952 and was awarded the Korean Service Bronze Star for his dedication and bravery. Following his service, he retuned home to Hamilton and began a distinguished career at Champion Paper Company. Over the course of 38 years, he worked as a Millwright Supervisor, earning respect for his hard work and leadership.
On April 27, 1957, DeeDee married his beloved wife, Janet M. Stricker. They enjoyed many years of happiness before she was called to her heavenly home.
DeeDee was deeply devoted to his Roman Catholic faith. He attended Mass regularly every Sunday and Monday, finding strength and solace in his spiritual practice. His commitment to service extended beyond his faith; he was an active member of the American Legion Post 1983 in Hamilton. Over the years, he held several officer positions within the organization, including Commander and District Commander. His contributions to the Legion reflected his unwavering dedication to supporting fellow veterans and serving his community.
An avid sports enthusiast, DeeDee found great joy on the golf course. He was especially delighted in achieving a hole-in-one, a moment that brought him immense pride. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, creating cherished memories through these simple yet meaningful pastimes.
DeeDee is survived by his sisters, Mary Jo Withrow and Carol Lee Withrow; Brothers, James (Beverley) Withrow and Daniel (Gloria) Withrow; Two Nieces, one nephew, six great-nephews, three great-nieces, two great-great-nephews, five great-great- nieces and very special friend, Sandy Downie. The family extends a special thanks to James and Lisa Stricker for their companionship and assistance over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Irene Withrow, as well as his nephew, Jeff Withrow.
Throughout his life, DeeDee exemplified kindness, loyalty, and a steadfast commitment to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
Funeral services are Friday March 27, 2026, at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, 382 Liberty Ave., Hamilton, Ohio. Visitation begins at 8:30 am, with a Mass following at 9:30 am.
