Daniel Louis Schmitz III, 64, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. He was born on November 8, 1961 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Daniel and Shirley (Schurger) Schmitz Jr. On June 4, 1982, he married Tonya Cozad. Danny was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Danny was a retired diesel mechanic, a job he enjoyed for more than 40 years. He had many hobbies, including bowling and hunting to name a few, but fishing held a special place in his heart. As a proud member of the Butler County Bass Masters for over 35 years, where he built many lifelong friendships and memories. More than anything, Danny cherished time with his family, especially grilling out at Hueston Woods and gathering together for the holidays.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Shirley (Schurger) Schmitz Jr. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Tonya Schmitz, and his four children: Shannon (Troy) Stamper of Williamsburg, Ohio; Mary (Bobby) Smith of Hamilton, Ohio; Daniel (Meagan) Schmitz of Fairfield, Ohio; Samantha (Cruz) Schmitz of Hamilton, Ohio, 13 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter,
Danny is also survived by his brother, Doug (Lori) Schmitz of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and four sisters: Debbie (Skip) Evens of Fairfield Township, Ohio; Diana (Robert) De Luna of Orlando, Florida; Dawna (Mel) Schmitz of Cincinnati, Ohio; Denise (Scotty) Wilmoth of Camden, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A visitation will be held in his memory on Tuesday, March 10th from 12pm to 2pm with a funeral service immediately following at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home located at 330 Pershing Avenue in Hamilton, Ohio. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and share in fellowship together.
