Darrell Beckett

Darrell Beckett, age 76 of Hamilton, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Known to many as Big Jake, he was born in Hamilton, Ohio on August 27, 1946 to the late Donald H. and Dorothy J. (Glordan) Beckett. He graduated from Talawanda High School, Class of 1964. After graduation, Darrell took to farming as his family had done for four generations before him. He also purchased The Blacksmith’s Shop on Route 27 in McGonigle in the 1970’s. He reopened it as The Rusty Nail and later renamed it Big Jake’s and ran it for over 30 years. Darrell juggled running a farm, running a bar, and spending time with his family almost all of his life. He loved his family with all of his heart and held a special place for his grandchildren. Darrell will be dearly missed by his wife, Dawana Beckett; his children, Darlene (Terry) McKinney, Debbie Beckett Alexander, Darrell Beckett, Jr., Brandon (Eva) Barnhart, Dylan Barnhart, Dalton (Caitlin) Beckett, and Davis (Megan) Beckett; his older brother, Don (Becky) Beckett; as well as many grandchildren, nieces & nephews, as well as many extended family members and close friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diana Sizemore. The family will host a Celebration of Darrell’s Life at a later date.
