Delbert Murphy, age 80 of Hamilton passed away at his residence on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 2:00 AM. He was born in Hamilton on February 9, 1928 the son of Arnold and Viola (Laws) Murphy. Delbert was a member of the Merchant Marines and was employed as a loader at Fisher Body for thirty years, retiring in 1980. Delbert was a devoted animal lover who never turned away a stray. He enjoyed boating, traveling and camping with his wife of 57 years. In 1950 in Hamilton, he was married to Janet Yvonne Anderson, and she preceded him in death on January 3, 2008.
He is survived by a son, Delbert Lee Murphy and his companion Rome Stewart; a daughter, Deborah (Bob) Miloslavich of Virginia; two grandchildren, Misty (Brian) Fariss of Florida and Daniel J. Stevens of Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Stone, Savannah, and Madison; a brother, Arnold Murphy Jr. of Hamilton; a half-sister, Helen Niehous of Oxford; a devoted friend and neighbor, Mary Baker; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Murphy; and a half-sister, Rosalie Wilson.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Chaplain Lauren Marsh of Mercy Franciscan at Schroder officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
