Della "Benita" Martin

Della “Benita” Martin, 85, a lifelong resident of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away Monday May 30, 2022. Benita was born in Hamilton, Ohio and attended Hamilton City Schools. She graduated from cosmetology training in 1969 and worked at the Cut & Curl Salon on Hamilton’s Westside for several years. Benita made many friends during her 40 plus year career as a hairstylist.

She enjoyed flower gardening and attending horse racing in Kentucky.  Even though Benita was very feminine and particular about her appearance, she was also skilled when it came to home maintenance and improvement projects. She taught herself to lay stone pavers and installed a front walkway and a rear patio area at her home in Millville. Typically, when asked what she would like for Christmas, Benita requested all kinds of hand tools, such as a handheld drill and a jig saw. Over the years, she rarely asked for assistance with her projects and completed most of these projects on her own.

Benita was a talented sketch artist and loved and appreciated animals so much, she raised both German Shepherds and Cairn Terriers for several years. As a self taught artist, Benita created many still life drawings and paintings of birds, dogs, and horses over the years. She was a naturalist, as she created authentic images of what she perceived in the natural world. Benita was a loving mother and grandmother, always making herself available if needed. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate a loved one’s accomplishment or special occasion.  Preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Lorraine, and brother Jerry.

She is survived by one son, Gerald “Mark” Martin, and his wife, Joni, of Cedar Grove, Indiana; and her two grandsons,  Joseph and Kevin Martin, of Ross Township, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral  Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, with Reverend Isaac Dudley, Jr. officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at Rose Hill Burial Park, 2421 Princeton Road Hamilton, Ohio. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
