Delmer B. Shell

Delmer Berkley Shell, born November 5, 1921, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to the late Aaron (Frank) and Joan McGuire Shell, passed away on November 8, 2017.

Delmer received his elementary education in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, schools and began his high school education at Berea Preparatory School, Kentucky. He was drafted into the United States Army in November 1942, and completed high school by correspondence after the war. He spent 32 months in Panama helping to protect the Panama Canal.

Delmer married Ada Pearl Philpot on March 3, 1945. They celebrated over 60 years of marriage. To this union were born one daughter, Donna Lynn, and one son, Terry Wayne.

Delmer was a member of the Gordon Avenue Church of God where he was the Music Director, and a charter member of the Millville Avenue Church of God where he attended for over 50 years, and was the Music Director for 23 years. Delmer loved music and singing for his Lord. He was a gospel singer and sang at many funerals and churches throughout Butler County.

Delmer retired from Champion Papers after 35 years.

Delmer was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ada, and his daughter, Donna Baker. He is survived by his son, Terry (Delores) Shell, 4 grandchildren—Kathy (Tommy) Stevens, Susan (Chris) McCord, Brian Baker, and Stephanie (Zachary) Cochran; 13 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and his very dear friend, Rosemary Westerfield.

Delmer is survived by one sister, Ruby Singleton; and preceded in death by 4 brothers—Albert Shell, Burgess Shell, Luther Shell, Lawrence Shell, and 4 sisters—Rebecca Bond, Ruth Allen, Edna Allen, and Alpha Abrams.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. at Millville Avenue Church of God, 1369 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, with Pastor Tim Cole and Pastor Frank Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Brian Baker, Christopher Baker, Cody Baker, Ronnie Singleton, Pat Turner, and Bill West.
