Diane Lucille Harris

October 9, 1944 — December 17, 2024

Diane Lucille Harris, our beloved mother passed away December 17,2024 at the age of 80 in her home in Hamilton, Ohio. Diane was born on October 9, 1944 in Yankton, South Dakota, to Inez (Larsen) and Ralph Chamberlain. Diane is a 1962 graduate of Yankton Senior High School. While Diane attended school, she was in Girl Scouts, a member of the Drill Team and a Job’s Daughter. Diane married Charles Solger of Vermont in the Fall of 1962. They divorced in 1969. Diane moved back to Yankton, SD with her two daughters. While she lived in Yankton, she managed Stevenson's Dress Shop. She also worked evenings at Happy Jacks Steakhouse so she could provide for her two young daughters. Diane and her daughters moved to Vermilion, SD in 1973 where she worked at the University of South Dakota in the Physical Plant. In 1980, Diane moved to Huntington Beach, California where she worked for FileNet, Opera Pacific, and Canon Computer systems. In 2002, she moved to Ohio to be closer to her grandchildren. Diane cherished being a Grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Inez and William Harris of Yankton, SD., Her father, Ralph Chamberlain of Rhode Island; her brother, Lee Harris of Isanti, Minn.

Diane will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jessica (Paul) Dunbar and Heidi (Bruce) Rice; her grandchildren, Kane, Blake, and Shelby Dunbar, Chelsea (Waseem) Saleh, Shayne (Taylor) Rice; her great grandchildren, OUdai, Zayn, and Raya; her brother, John Harris of Sioux Falls, SD; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Diane had a love of reading she could spend hours getting lost in a good crime mystery. She was a foodie and enjoyed reading about chefs, their restaurants and recipes. Diane enjoyed traveling and had been to Europe, visiting Spain and France. She also liked taking short trips with family including, proudly marched in the Women’s March in 2019 in Washington, DC. She was a big fan of cross word puzzles especially the New York Times puzzle. Diane could be a competitive Scrabble player and we were fortunate to have recently played a family Scrabble game. Diane enjoyed life on her terms and she will be greatly missed.

Memorial Services will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Hamilton, Ohio on January 25, 2025 at 1pm with a memorial reception to follow. Please join us in a celebration of her life.

A committal service will take place later this spring in Yankton, SD, where she will be buried next to her parents at Garden Cemetery.
