Doris L. Burkart age 90 of Fairfield passed away in Hospice of Hamilton on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 9:18PM. She was born in Piqua, Ohio on June 30, 1918, the daughter of Ray and Edna (Rousseau) Seipel. Doris was a 1939 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing; a volunteer for Mercy Hospital of Hamilton; a member of Church Women United and Christ Renews Parish Retreat Group and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a registered nurse for Mercy Hospital of Hamilton for twenty years and then at the YWCA Camp Luella Mae for six years retiring in 1972. On October 17, 1940, in Piqua, Ohio, she was married to George L. Burkart, celebrating fifty-one years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1992.
She is survived by five sons; David (Linda) Burkart of Hamilton, Stephen (Sandra) Burkart of Batavia, Richard (Diane) Burkart of Crestview, Florida, Thomas (Peggy) Burkart of Harrison and Jerome (Susan) Burkart of Hendersonville, North Carolina; four daughters, Doris (Jon) Craig of Gainesville, Florida, Claudia (Clay Schneider) Burkart of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Mary Gardner of Fairfield and Theresa (Tracy) Crowley of Lilburn, Georgia; one brother, Ronald Seipel of San Diego, California and also twenty-eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Norman Seipel and one sister, Miriam Henry and one granddaughter, Venessa Thompson.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10 AM with Father Larry Tharp, celebrant, followed by a Celebration of Life at Waterford Retirement Community. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or charity of donor’s choice.
