Doris Jean Freeman, age 94 of Hamilton, passed away at Westover Retirement Community on Friday, December 27, 2024. Doris was born in Walton, Kentucky on August 18, 1930, to George Riley Burris and Ella (Dempsey) Burris. On May 2, 1953, she married James F. Freeman Jr.; and he preceded her in death in 2022. She was the oldest of three children. Doris had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the church choir and with several local swing bands. She worked for Lawrenceburg High School for over 15 years, and later worked for Modern Ice Company. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals fan. Doris and Jim loved music, dancing, and she will always be remembered for her great sense of humor and how much she loved to laugh. Most of all, Doris loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of her family. Doris is survived by her daughter Ellie (Bryan) Watkins, daughter-in-law, Robbi-Ann Freeman, grandchildren; Lisa-Ann (Mike) Fontanetta, James (Sarah) Freeman IV and Bradley (Erin) Watkins. And 6 great grandchildren; Pace, John, Elle, Piper, Olivia and Scarlett; and one sister, Joyce (James) Jerow; and numerous nieces, nephews; and her Lawrenceburg family, “The Lansings”. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Freeman Jr.; her son James Freeman III; her brother, George Burris Jr.; and dear friends Bo and Mary Lansing.
Burial will take place on Saturday March 8, 2025, at 9:30AM at Greendale Cemetery, 886 Nowlin Ave, Greendale, IN 47025. A celebration of life reception will take place Saturday March 8, 2025, from 1:00PM – 4:00PM at Shooters, 877 NW Washington Blvd., Hamilton, OH 45013. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Hamilton Community Foundation c/o Friends of 17 Strong.
