Dorothy E. Gabbard

Dorothy E. Gabbard, age 96 of Hamilton, passed away at Tri County Extended Care on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 12:07 AM. She was born in Butler County on October 7, 1919 to Roy and Jesse (Sroufe) Simmons. Dorothy was employed at McCroys from 1939 to 1942 and as a key punch operator at Ohio Casualty from 1944 to 1948. On January 24, 1943 in Jackson, Mississippi she married George W. Gabbard and he preceded her in death in 1992. Dorothy was a member of Bridgewater Church.

She is survived by two children, Gary (Carolyn) Gabbard of Hamilton and Dianne (Larry Reynolds) Thomas of Fairfield; one granddaughter, Jessica (Michael) Spahr of Cincinnati; and three siblings, Don (Lenore) Simmons and Robert (Mildred) Simmons, both of Hamilton, and Irma Williams of Fairfield; sister-in-law, Lucille Simmons of Florida; brother-in-law, Robert Messal of Fairfield; and four step grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol Marie Gabbard; and by fourteen siblings, Roy, Eugene, Thomas, Raymond, Wilbur, Orville, Russell, Willard, Mildred, Ruth, and Jessie Simmons, and Helen Messal, Margaret Liegl, and Marian Doll.

Funeral service will be held at Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Amy L. Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
