Douglas Fike, a cornerstone of the Hamilton community and a man who turned every stranger into a friend, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on May 13, 1936, Doug spent his life proving that one person’s kindness and humor could light up an entire city.
Doug didn’t just live in Hamilton; he served it. In the 1970s, he was a dedicated member of R.E.A.C.T. (Radio Emergency Associated Communications Teams), providing a vital link for public safety. His leadership extended to the Hamilton Civic Association, where he served as President, working tirelessly to better the community he loved so dearly.
To those who knew him, Doug was defined by a rare, genuine warmth and a quick wit that could put anyone at ease. His true legacy, however, was built on the sidelines and in the dugouts of local parks. As a mentor and coach for youth baseball and soccer, Doug taught generations of young athletes far more than just the rules of the game. He taught them about integrity, sportsmanship, and the importance of showing up for one another.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Fike. Doug is survived by his daughter, Sandy Oakes and her husband, Randy, and his son, Tim Fike and his wife, Carla. He was the proud grandfather of Jon Randal Oakes and his partner, Kaleigh Kinser, Danny Oakes and his wife, Stephanie, Brittney Quick and her husband, Freddie, Michael Fike, and Madeline Fike.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Parker, Tanner, and Tucker Oakes; Brenleigh Kinser; and Isabelle Quick and Ethaniel (Spike) Conley.
Doug’s life was a masterclass in community spirit. Whether he was leading a civic meeting, responding to an emergency call, or coaching a Saturday morning game, he did it with a heart full of kindness and a joke ready for anyone who needed a smile.
