Douglas George Lake

January 22, 1957 — June 11, 2021

Lake, Douglas George, age 64 of Morgan Township passed away on June 11, 2021.  He was born on January 22, 1957, the son of George and Nora Etta (Tuggle) Lake, in Hamilton, Ohio.  He married Valerie Maxey (born 1 day earlier, in the same hospital) on May 12, 1979, and she preceded him in death on September 13, 2008.  He is survived by his four children; Ryan (Stephanie) Lake of Knoxville, TN, Mandy (Craig) Smith of Hamilton, Justin (Melissa) Lake of Harrison, Rebecca Lake of Hamilton and seven grandchildren; Jessa, Carli, and Quinn Smith, Landon and Ellie Lake, Briana Stottlemyer, and Tyler Mitchell.  His surviving brothers and sisters; Cheryl Ward, Robert W. Lake, James A. Lake, Mary Lake, Kathy Lake, Tom Lake, Steve Lake, Teresa Tolley, and Christopher Lake.

Doug was a heavy equipment mechanic/operator and welder for nearly 30 years at Hamilton Excavators, New Miami Sand and Gravel, Watson Gravel, and Mt. Pleasant Blacktopping.  He has always been known to go above and beyond to help family, friends or acquaintances, which has had significant impacts on individuals and/or their families.  Although he wasn’t a farmer by trade, he was a John Deere enthusiast (inspired by the family farms in Hamilton/Oxford).  At one point in time, he had nearly 20 pieces of John Deere equipment, used to help family/friends farm, and to enable his grandchildren to learn to drive operate.  He could always be found in western Butler County, driving his John Deere 4020 loader tractor or Caterpillar 933 track loader, heading somewhere to help someone.  That willingness and capability to assist or repair anything, at practically anytime, will be greatly missed by those that loved and appreciated him.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Thursday July 1st, from 5:30-8pm at the Reily Community Center, 6061 Reily Millville Rd, Oxford, OH 45056.
