Dr. James Carroll Haynes, DMin

February 16, 1942 — October 3, 2025

Mount Vernon, Ohio

James “Jim” C. Haynes, 83, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 3, 2025. He was born on February 16, 1942, to O.F. and Garnet (Woodall) Haynes. After serving in the U.S. Army, Jim met the love of his life, Nancy (Moore), at Frankfort Pilgrim College in Frankfort, Indiana. They were married on May 27, 1967, at the First Pilgrim Holiness Church in Frankfort and celebrated 58 wonderful years together this past May. Their marriage was blessed with three children: James Wesley (Lori) Haynes, Susan Lynn (Ty) Grable, and Glendon Jay (Yan) Haynes.

Jim felt God’s call to pastoral ministry early in life. Although his carpentry skills opened doors to a promising career in home construction, he ultimately chose to follow God’s plan for him. After graduating from Trevecca Nazarene University with a bachelor’s degree in religion, he entered full-time ministry. While pastoring, he went on to earn a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

Jim loved people deeply and had a special gift for reconnecting those who had become disconnected. He never met a stranger. Whether talking with the whittling men on a bench outside the grocery store in McEwen, Tennessee, or visiting families in their homes, Jim cherished time spent with others. He never turned away a cry for help, no matter the hour. He was faithful in hospital visits, pastoral care, and sharing the hope of Christ. His greatest joy was leading people to faith, reminding them that the joy of the Lord brings peace, strength, and comfort through life’s trials.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother John Brooks Haynes, sister-in-law Elizabeth, and their children Jerry, Greg, and Sonia; his sister Judith; nieces Samantha and Aleta; nephew Earnest; his in-laws Earl and Bertha Moore; brothers-in-law William and James Leslie Moore and Ralph Stockton; and sisters-in-law Betty and Reba Oneal.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; children - Jim, Susan, and Glen; son-in-law Ty and daughters in-law Lori and Yan; six beloved grandchildren—Robert, Jacob, Avery, Alexis, Caleb, and Zachary; his sister, Jane Stockton; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim will be remembered as a faithful pastor, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a man who dedicated his life to serving others and sharing God’s love.
