Edith Joyce Gravitt

Edith Joyce Gravitt, age 75 of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 9:23 PM. She was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on September 16, 1940 the daughter of Noah and Lonzie (Hinel) Maples Sr. On March 19, 1980 in Hamilton she married Jerry Gravitt and he preceded her in death in 1995. She was a member of the American Legion Post #138; a lifetime member of the Eagles #407; Past President of the Women’s Auxiliary of Amvets Post #2 from 1992-1993; and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Edith loved gardening, enjoyed going to the boat, and spending time with her family and loved ones.

She is survived by three children, Rita (John) Massey of Florida, John Randall Poynter of Hamilton, and Daphne (Bob) Curtis of Hamilton; two brothers, Neal Maples of Hamilton and Ralph (Janice) Maples of Middletown; two sisters, Carrie Martin of Kentucky and Jean Begley of Hamilton; five grandchildren, Tony Poynter, Renee Burris, Kim Poynter, Nick Poynter, and Ashley Curtis; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Thomas, Isaac, and Zallinna; lovingly devoted companion, Robert Craycraft of Hamilton; and numerous other relatives and friends, including Rhonda Pike and Stephanie Browning. She was preceded in death by parents; two brothers, Noah Maples Jr. and Paul Maples; one sister, Midge Suttles; and a granddaughter, Kristen Curtis.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dale Hinderliter officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
