Edna Cole Ratliff (Alwood), age 82, passed away peacefully at Woodlands of Hamilton in Hamilton, Ohio, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 31, 1943, Edna was the beloved daughter of the late John Virgil Alwood and Laurel (Farrell) Alwood.

Edna is survived by her children, Charles (Michelle) Poe and Sherry (Tom) Lachtrupp; her grandchildren, Krista Nichols, Adrianna Mahlerwein, and Lorelei Poe; her half-sister, Mary (Jim) Zalipski; her aunt, Marie Strain (her father’s sister); and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Roy (Ed) Ratliff; her brothers, John Virgil Alwood III, Howard Alwood, and William Alwood; her half-brother, Allan Alwood; and her half-sister, Cheri Hatfield.

A woman of many talents, Edna found joy in creativity and craftsmanship. She loved to dance, designed exquisite porcelain dolls, crafted teddy bears from rabbit fur, and created beautiful stained glass, pottery, and jewelry. She was also a gifted writer, with several short stories published over the years. Edna’s creative spirit and competitive nature shone whenever she played cards or board games with family and friends.

Private services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio, at a later date. Though Edna dearly loved flowers, she would be honored by memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
