Edward "Gene" Proffitt

Edward E. “Gene” Proffitt, age 85 of Hamilton, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025. Gene was born in London, Kentucky on May 8, 1940 to George “Ed” Proffitt and Grace (Hammons) Huff. In 1977 he married the love of his life, Joyce Brummett. Gene loved fishing, camping and travelling with his family. He enjoyed checkers, cornhole, and playing with his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Proffitt; daughters, Julia (William) Hobbs and Elizabeth (Markcus) Ware; grandchildren, Gavin Hobbs, Amelia Ware, Kye Ware, Ocean Canyon and Serena Canyon; siblings, Lee Proffitt, Loretta Proffitt, Sussie (Harold) Sunderhaus, Linda (George) York, Lucy Carol; aunts, Veda Proffitt, Dorothy Smith, and Wanda House; uncle, JD Hammons; and numerous other relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, George Proffitt and Grace Huff; brothers, Delbert Proffitt and Bill (Lommie) Proffitt.

Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton, Ohio, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Cecil Benge officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home.
