Elbert Wilder, age 80 of Oneida, Kentucky, formerly of Hamilton, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2007. He was born on August 27, 1927 in Owsley County, Kentucky. Elbert was a veteran of World War II, and during his service was an escort for General Eisenhower. He was a supervisor at Black Clawson, and later started a construction business with Harve Singleton, which was known as Singleton and Wilder General Contractors in Hamilton. In 1946, Elbert married his first wife, Ruby Rice, who preceded him in death on December 3, 1986; he then married Mary Fern (Bishop) Byrd on January 2, 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Fern; a daughter, Betty (Benny) Turner of Hamilton; a granddaughter, Shannon (Damon) Jones; a great-grandson, Christopher Cardeman of Trenton; a stepdaughter, Teresa (Mike) Urti; step-grandson-in-law, Jason, all of Cincinnati; and a sister, Edith (Clay) Bishop of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lewis and Hattie Wilder; a sister, Edna (Donald) Burke; and one brother, Fred (Linda) Wilder. Elbert was a great man and will be missed by his loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be held at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Phillip Bower officiating, and music by Brenda Bower. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday after 6:00 PM at the Britton Funeral Home, Manchester, Kentucky and also Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue.
