Elder Charlie Brock went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 4:45 PM in Ft. Hamilton Hospital. He was born in Laurel County, Kentucky on January 21, 1923 the son of Fred and Lucy (Sullivan) Brock. Charlie was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945 with the 94th Medical Unit, serving throughout Europe. He was a member of the DAV Post #15 and was employed in salvage repair for Fisher Body for 31 years, retiring in 1980. In January of 1958 he was ordained a minister with United Baptist Church, serving New Liberty, Baptist Chapel, New Bethel, and currently a member of New Harvest United Baptist Church. Charlie enjoyed life to its fullest, enjoyed spending time with his family and church family, and his greatest joy was serving the Lord. On August 11, 1945 in London, Kentucky he was married to Edith Owens.
He is survived by his precious, loving wife and best friend for 66 years, Edith Brock of Hamilton; one son, Chuck (Audrey) Brock of Hamilton; three daughters, Charlene (Abe) Bowling of Reily, Charlotte (Bill) Allen of Middletown, and Debby Brock (Jack) of Hamilton; two sisters, Hettie Baker and Lillie Schooley, both of Hamilton; ten grandchildren, Abe II, Amy, Heather, Joe, Charlie, Scott, Stephanie, Jamie, Dawn, and Danielle; and also fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; by one son, Kenneth Ray Brock; five brothers, Robert, Jack, Walter, Earl, and Fred Jr.; two sisters, Mary Rose Baker and Ollie Moore; and a granddaughter, Kathy Bowling in 2005.
Funeral services will be held at the New Harvest United Baptist Church, 718 North E Street, on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Clyde Shackleford officiating, assisted by Elder Fred Baker and Elder James House. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
