Elizabeth Ann Gibbs

October 21, 1924 — October 4, 2023

Elizabeth Ann Gibbs, age 98 of Lindenwald, passed away at Bethesda Butler Hospital on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Elizabeth was born in Berea, Kentucky on October 21, 1924 to the late Overton Hugh Black and Nancy Jane (Hensley) Black. Elizabeth’s family moved to the Hamilton area when she was young. She attended local schools, graduating from Seven Mile High, class of 1942. That same year she married Ruby Oscar Gibbs shortly before he shipped out with the U.S. Army. She patiently waited for his return and, as promised, he came back and they raised a family together after settling in Lindenwald. As the kids grew older, she went to work at Mercy Hospital and Fort Hamilton Hughes as a nursing aide. She especially loved working in the nursery. Elizabeth also kept a garden and enjoyed canning for the winter. Being from Kentucky, she loved Bluegrass music – her favorite song being “Rocky Top.” In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with friends at the local VFW, going to the casinos, and the occasional trip to La Pinata for a margarita. Yearly vacations often included a trip to Daytona Beach and the annual retreat to Gatlinburg. Above all, Elizabeth loved her family with all of her heart and showed it in many ways, from dancing with her grandkids to being the amazing mother that she will always be. Elizabeth is survived by her children, Jeri Hume, Michael (Kathy) Gibbs, Lisa (Ted) Davis, Jon Gibbs; her grandchildren, Jenny (Steve) Hamilton, Josh Hume, Andy Gibbs, Joe (Emily) Gibbs, Clint Gibbs, Amanda (Nick) Monroe, Hannah (Cody) Welch, and Gabe (Karen) Gibbs; her nine great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Ruby Oscar Gibbs; her son, Terrill Joseph Gibbs; her son-in-law, Neil Hume; and her sisters, Belle Ledford and Maeola Huber. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of her Funeral Service at 11:30 AM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave., Hamilton, Ohio, with Pastor Doug Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Hauger and nurses Bessie and Lisa at Bethesda Butler Hospital for their compassion and kindness.
