Elizabeth "Betty" Griffith

Elizabeth "Betty" Griffith, age 96 went home to be with her Heavenly Family from Fort Hamilton Hospital on Monday, August 22, 2011. She was born in Hamilton on June 8, 1915 the daughter of John L. and Josephine (Fisher) Hart. Betty was the owner and operator of Betty’s Beauty Shop for fifteen years, retiring in 1982. She was avid fisherman, an avid bowler and card player.

She is survived by two children, Richard (Lucy) Rathgens and Deb (David) Baker, both of Hamilton; five grandchildren, Christopher, Maria, and Veronica Rathgens, Shawn and Jason Baker, and Deb Kerinuk; three great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Andrea, and Andrew; a great-great granddaughter, Alexa Joy Kerinuk; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death in her parents, and six siblings, John, Leroy, and Virgil Hart, Josephine Isaacs, and Ralph and Walter Spaulding.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
