Elmer "Russ" Baker, age 90 of Hanover Township passed away in Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:40 PM. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky on March 26, 1920 the son of Birt and Sarah (Morris) Baker. Elmer was a veteran of World War II with the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945, a member of Amvets Post #1983, a member of VFW #1069 and was employed as a salesman for Omar Bakery for 18 years and employed at Ford Motor Company for ten years, retiring in 1982. On June 19, 1941 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky he was married to Jean Price, and she preceded him in death in 2008.
He is survived by two sons, Russell (Nelda) Baker of Quinlan, Texas and David (Debbie) Baker of Hamilton; three daughters, Shirley (Jim) McWhorter, Sandy Langdon, and Mary (Danny) Clark, all of Hamilton; one sister, Helen (Jack) Crouch of Hamilton; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Mike Callihan, Pastor of the Living Word Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thank you to Daisey, Amanda, Tasha, and all the other nurses, aides, and staff of Huntington Court for their loving care.
