Elmer J. Lauer

Elmer J. Lauer, age 91 of Hamilton passed away in Berkeley Square Retirement Center on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 1:35 AM. He was born in Hamilton on February 11, 1917 the son of Nikolas and Magdalena (Bohr) Lauer. Elmer was a veteran of World War II with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946, serving as a machinist’s mate 3-C, was a lifelong member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, and was employed as a brick layer for Brick Layer and Allied Craftsman Local #18 for sixty years, retiring in 1998. On September 2, 1941 in Spartanburg, South Carolina he was married to Maudie Hartman, and she preceded him in death in 1997.

He is survived by four daughters, JoAnn (Joseph) Barsamian of Columbus, Ohio, Norma (Zeke) Eleton of Hamilton, Debbie (Fred) Wagers of Hamilton, and Deidra (Rick) Thieken of Hamilton; two sons, Phillip (Donna) Nunemaker of Hamilton and Thomas Lauer of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Ervin Lauer of Hamilton; three sisters, Helen Hurd of Hamilton, Irene Digonno of Fairfield, and Jean Pater of Hamilton; also the loving grandfather of sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy Murray in 2005; four brothers, Nick, Albert, Erich, and William Lauer; and four sisters, Louise Tape, Elsye Lauer, Alma Alford, and Marie Bruck.

Prayers will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with Fr. Tim Bunch, Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Berkeley Health Care for all their love and support to both Elmer and his family.
