Elmer "Nick" Nichting

Elmer "Nick" Nichting, age 88 of Hamilton passed away in Hospice of Hamilton on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 7:00 PM. He was born in Hamilton on February 28, 1921 the son of Henry and Lill (Wessel) Nichting. Elmer was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, was a life member of the Elks Lodge #93, life member of the VFW Post #1069, a life member of the Monkey Mutual Aid Society #1, a member of the American Legion Post #138, the Amvets Post #1983, the YMCA of Fairfield, the K of C #968, and was past president of the Tavern Owners Association, and was also a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church. Elmer took over Luke’s Saloon on July 4, 1950 and became the owner/operator of Nichting’s Supper Club for 39 years until it was sold in 1989. Elmer enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, dining, and vacations in Florida. On August 19, 1948 in Hamilton he was married to Antonietta "Ann" Russo, enjoying 54 years of marriage until she preceded him in death in 2002.

He is survived by one daughter, Marlene Nichting of Hamilton; one granddaughter, Shawna (John) Henry of Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Peters and Tricia Wyatt; a special niece, Dee (Carl) Arnold of Hamilton; and a number of other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ray, Bernard, and Harry Nichting; three sisters, Margaret Shroyer, Catherine Weisenberger, and Henrietta Pieper; and a niece, Rosann Abrams.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Michael Pucke, Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church or to Hospice of Hamilton. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Hamilton for their loving care and concern.
